Starting out

After sitting on a free server for several months I finally got an idea of how to use it: self host my own website like it’s Y2k.

My old site had some issues that bugged me:

• There was no easy way to add a lot of photos or a viewer without redoing the whole thing
• It was made using an outdated version of svelte and updating it meant redoing everything
• It was hosted somewhere that kept bugging me about node security issues for my static site

So I finally decided to use this server for that. Hopefully I’ll be better about keeping it updated.

The goal of this site is to force me to learn some server admin stuff I should have learned long ago and to have a place to share my photos with friends.

Not having a convenient way to do that has been the worst part of being off social media and I think this will solve the issue.

So expect more posts in the future about my PhD progress, trips, photos or whatever!
